| I
was born in New York. The first painting I remember
making was of a Hawaiian lady swimming the backstroke under
a palm tree. Since then, making pictures and telling stories
have been my favorite activity.
I studied
Illustration at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, Massachusetts,
where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. I studied for a Master of
Fine Arts degree at Syracuse University. I settled in Boston,
after completing my degree, where I taught at Massachusetts
College of Art and Design and illustrated for a variety of clients.
Since
1993 I have illustrated a number of picture and chapter books
for children and young adults. In 1995 I moved to Glasgow,
Scotland, where I continue to work from my studio at the WASPS
Factory. In addition to illustrating, I exhibit my paintings
in galleries and travel as much as possible to absorb inspirations
for new work. Trips to India, Bali, Mexico, Spain, Greece and Ireland
have all brought new ideas and imagery.
In recent years I have begun writing my own stories to illustrate. In 2005 I was selected for the Scottish Book Trust Words@Work mentoring scheme and developed my writing with Kathryn Ross of Fraser Ross Associates. Fraser Ross Associates began representing me in 2006.
I was awarded a 2006 Scottish Arts Council New Writers Bursary to work on my first illustrated novel for 9-14 year olds, The Blackhope Enigma, which is published by Templar Publishing. I am currently at work on my second novel. |
