Autumn 2007

Whether you have found my new website through one of my postcards, a web search or a tip from a friend, welcome!

News

The spring and summer were busy with residencies in West Lothian and Fife! I was lucky enough to work with children aged from 6 to 15 on a variety of writing and illustrating projects. In between, I managed to do some educational illustrations for companies in the USA and to work on my novel for children. Though I love illustrating other people's books, I have been taking some time out to write my own adventure-fantasy story for ages ten and older. It has been labour intensive, but very personally rewarding. I am coming into the home stretch now and the next challenge will be to make some illustrations to go with it. Then it will be sent off into the hands of publishers and I will wait to see whether it interests them!

This autumn I am delighted to be leading another residency, this time hosted by the fabulous Mitchell Library in Glasgow and sponsored by Warburtons.I am working with 32 talented Primary 7 pupils from Balornock Primary School to create a series of picture books about Sammy, a snail who visits Scotland. One of the finished books will be chosen to travel to four linked schools in Slovakia, Spain, Germany and Italy next spring!

Over the summer I was pleased to participate in the Booby Birds charity art exhibition and sale at the Kelvingrove Art Museum. A percentage of the sale of my paintings and others donated by artists helped support cancer care and research.

Speaking of cancer research, some of you may remember that I created a special snowflake for the Robert's Snow online auction to benefit the Jimmy Fund in the USA. The auction will take place again this winter, and though I will not participate this time, I encourage you to bid on a fantastic handpainted snowflake. The website is listed on the bottom of my Links page.
